LEGACY & SUPREMACY

The sea has always been a fascinating source of inspiration for the Greeks, leading to the flowering of mathematics, physics and astronomy as well as the richest myths and epic stories. A veritable vector of cultural transmission, trade and exploration.

The Greek maritime superiority is dating back millennia. From the days of the Minoan thalassocracy around 3000BC and the ancient triremes to today’s traditional fishing boats, luxurious yachts, refined sailboats and monstrous freighters and tankers, Greece has kept its naval preeminence, presently controlling the world’s largest merchant fleet with a total deadweight tonnage of approximately 3.5 million tons and 4,900 vessels.
